Locust Lane Realty, LLC was founded by Anita Mathewson in 1979

Anita Mathewson, Founder

I was born in Sweden and moved to New York City as a young woman to pursue my career with Pan Am Airways.  I met my husband, John, in New York.  He introduced me to his favorite corner of the world -  Litchfield County.  We bought a country house here and two years later moved up full-time.  We never looked back!  Our daughters, Jill and Sandra, were raised in Norfolk and attended the local schools, as well as Indian Mountain in Lakeville, and Kent School.  Both girls later followed in their father's footsteps and graduated from Colgate University.  My eldest, Jill, has now joined me in business.

I am passionate about the Litchfield County lifestyle, and love the unique mix of antique charm, sophisticated residents, artistic outlets and the beautiful natural setting.

I am a member of the Litchfield County Board of Realtors and the Multiple Listing Service.  I also belong to the Norfolk Country Club where I play tennis and golf, and I love to hike with my beloved mutt, Lucky.  I also enjoy yoga and skiing.

I started Locust Lane Realty, LLC in 1979 with the goal of finding the right house for each client.  Our service is carefully personalized.  I count many current and past clients among my dearest friends.

I was born and raised in Norfolk and caught the real estate "bug" from my mother, Anita.  After graduating from Colgate University, I moved to Washington, DC to pursue a career in residential real estate, which I loved.

My husband Bill's aerospace consulting career took us to Houston, TX, where we raised our young children John and Mia.  Our ties with Litchfield County remained as strong as ever, and we returned every summer and for many holidays. Several years ago, we bought a house in Norfolk as an investment.

During the summer of 2005, we were able to follow our dream of moving here and have recently completed building our permanent home on the Norfolk/Canaan border. Our daughter is a student at the same school that I attended, Botelle Elementary School in Norfolk.  Our son is enjoying Indian Mountain School in Lakeville and will be going into the 9th grade next year.  They enjoy the seasons and are looking forward to skiing this winter in the nearby Berkshires.

My husband Bill is able to telecommute and our proximity to Bradley International Airport allows him easy access to clients around the country.

I am excited to continue my real estate career in the area that I know best.  My love of Litchfield County and knowledge of its real estate market enables a customized collaboration with our clients.

I was born in India and came to the United States at the age of 3 and was raised in the state of Connecticut. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.Sc. in Engineering and upon graduation was employed by IBM as a marketing representative for five years. I then joined Hewlett Packard as an account executive for another five years.

My husband and I discovered Norfolk 7 years ago when we were presented with an opportunity to live anywhere in the United States. A realtor suggested we look at a piece of land for sale in Norfolk, CT and we fell in love with the land and the property, and naturally I felt at home. We built our dream house and really enjoy raising our beautiful daughters ages 9 and 11 and our faithful German Shepherd Gretta.

Sometimes, when you’re really lucky, a certain special place immediately reaches inside and speaks to your heart.  Having lived in all areas of the country, Norfolk and the Northwest Hills quickly seduced me with the natural beauty and calm serenity that punctuate every aspect of life here.

Having honed my broker skills in the intrepid market of New York City, I feel fortunate to hold licenses both in New York and Connecticut, continuing my ability to work with repeat customers and referrals in the Big Apple.

I bring an infectious love and appreciation of Litchfield County to everyone I meet.  With buyers, I always strive to hear exactly what their dream home will encompass, whether it be a full-time living or vacation home situation.

For sellers, my past training in real estate appraisal helps with the ‘nuts and bolts’ aspect of residential property assessment, and my years in real estate have provided me a keen eye for analyzing current market conditions and how best to present your home to a new owner.

My partner and I can often be found working on projects around our Norfolk home or out for a stroll with our two pooches  -  Virgil (greyhound) and Miss Penny (Cocker).
